PRACTICAL GUIDANCE FOR UK VIEWERS
IPTV Catch-up, Recording & Live Pause Explained
Catch-up TV, recording and pausing live TV are different features. Catch-up needs a programme archive supplied by the service; recording needs a supported recording system; live pause may only keep a temporary buffer. A TV guide or a pause button alone does not guarantee any of them.

Which kind of watching later do you mean?
Catch-up: an earlier programme supplied by the service
Catch-up uses an archive that the service makes available. The player must understand how to open it, and availability can differ by programme, channel and time window. It is not created simply by displaying yesterday's schedule.
Recording: a copy made by a supported recording system
A local recording is saved by a compatible app or recorder to storage you control. Cloud recording, where offered, is stored by the service instead. Both have their own requirements and permissions; do not assume that buying an IPTV player provides either feature.
Timeshift: a temporary window behind live TV
Timeshift lets you pause or move within an available buffer. That buffer might begin only when you started watching, and it may disappear when you stop. It is not necessarily a permanent recording or an archive of the whole programme.
Video on demand: a separately available title
VOD is a title selected for on-demand playback. It is distinct from replaying a channel's earlier broadcast. A programme appearing in an EPG does not establish that a VOD version exists.
Check three layers before paying for a feature
Kodi's official IPTV Simple documentation illustrates the dependency: its catch-up support requires provider support, while pausing and seeking also depend on the inputstream used. That is an example of one player's design, not a statement that every player behaves the same way.
This guide does not confirm catch-up or recording availability for Xtreme HD subscriptions or Xtreme HD Player. If either is essential to you, ask the team about your exact service, app and device before ordering.
- Service: does the provider make the exact programme or channel available for catch-up, and for how long? Ask whether the current programme can be restarted or only completed programmes replayed.
- Player: does your app support the provider's method on your device? A similarly named feature in another app is not proof that this app can use the same archive.
- Device: if you want local recording, does the supported recording setup have the required storage, permissions and power behaviour? Check the app's current documentation rather than relying on a menu label.

A safe first check for catch-up playback
Use a programme that the provider has explicitly confirmed is available, preferably a recently completed one. That gives you a known starting point instead of testing a random old listing and assuming the whole service is broken.
Do not edit private stream addresses, invent archive parameters or try to bypass an access restriction. A server-side archive or permission cannot be created by a setting in the player.
- Check that ordinary live playback works for the relevant channel.
- Check the device's automatic date and time settings. For UK use, select the appropriate UK time zone rather than forcing a permanent one-hour offset.
- Refresh the guide using the player's normal refresh option. Confirm that the listed programme and time are the ones you intended to open.
- Look for the app's documented replay or catch-up action on that programme. If no action is offered, check availability and app support before changing the account.
- If replay is available, try the confirmed programme once and note the result. Stop making repeated changes if the same access error returns.
Interpret the symptom before changing settings
Yesterday's programme is listed but cannot be played
The EPG may contain historical schedule information without a matching replay. First confirm that the programme is inside the provider's stated archive window and supported on your plan. An old listing by itself is not an error.
Some programmes replay, but others do not
Compare the working and failing programme dates and channels. Ask the provider about the specific exceptions. Avoid assuming that one successful replay means every channel has the same archive coverage.
The wrong part of a programme starts
Check the programme listing and device time first. If live schedules are correct but replay consistently starts at the wrong point, send a precise example to support. Do not apply several time offsets across the device, guide and player at once; it becomes difficult to identify which change mattered.
Live works but replay shows an access error
Record the wording and whether another provider-confirmed replay works. Keep the account configuration intact while support checks archive access. For 401 or 403 responses, use the separate login and access guide; a reinstall does not grant missing permission.
What to confirm before relying on local recording
Read the current documentation for your specific app and device. A recording option may have conditions that are not obvious from the remote control, such as a paid software feature, a supported storage location or the need to keep a recording process running.
Only use recording features where the content rights, service terms and applicable rules permit it. This article is a technical checklist, not confirmation that a particular stream may be recorded.
- Confirm where recordings will be stored and how much space is available. Do not format an existing drive as a troubleshooting step without understanding that it can erase its contents.
- Check whether scheduled recordings can start when the TV or streaming device is asleep. Do not assume the television's power state matches the recorder's power state.
- Ask whether watching one stream while recording another consumes an additional service connection. Check the provider's policy rather than assuming recording is exempt.
- Test a short permitted recording before relying on a longer schedule. Open the saved file, check sound and picture, and confirm that it is the content and duration you expected.
- Check the app's documentation for recording limits and file-format support. Keep account details and recordings containing private information off public sharing sites.
Send support a useful replay report
A clear report can separate an unavailable feature from a faulty one. Send it through the provider's official private support route, without passwords or complete playlist URLs.
If you are still choosing a subscription, use the same list as a pre-purchase question. Getting a specific answer about the feature you actually need is more useful than a broad promise that an app has 'everything'.
- Device make/model and app name/version.
- Whether you mean catch-up, local recording, cloud recording or pausing live TV.
- Programme/channel and the displayed UK date and time.
- Whether the provider confirmed that example was available.
- Whether live playback works and what happens when replay starts.
- Exact error wording and a short list of checks already tried.
